Gavel Passed to Sara Morgan, New Boston SIM President

Sara Morgan took the reins as the new President of Boston SIM at last night’s monthly meeting. She praised Tom Catalini, our outgoing President and presented him with a ceremonial gavel to thank him for all the work he did in 2013.  Sara also reviewed our 2013 accomplishments. These included hosting SIMposium, redesigning our web site and increasing attendance at our monthly meetings. Finally, Sara presented plaques and thanked our two retiring board members–Kavin Moody and Dave Matheson.

Outreach Partners Honored at Year End Gala

Tom Catalini, Boston SIM President, and Craig Horgan, Outreach Co-Chair, recognized representatives from each of our outreach partners at the Year End gala on December 12 at the JFK Library.  Boston SIM gives back to the community by supporting non-profits that focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. STEM Issues Discussed at December Panel

The need for more students skilled in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) was the focus of the panel discussion held at the Boston SIM end of year gala at the JFK Library on December 12.  The panel topic was “The State of STEM: Your Next Generation IT Workforce.”  It was led by SIM Boston President Tom Catalini.  The panelists were Kelly Powers, Massachusetts STEM Teacher of the Year 2013, Jim Stanton, Executive Director, MassCAN (Massachusetts Computing Attainment Network) and Mark Greenlaw, VP of Sustainability & Education Affairs, Cognizant (former CIO of Cognizant).   There were 84 attendees.
