SIM Silver Sailing Trip – September 13th

Thanks to Steve Hall’s personal involvement with the restoration of the boat, SIM Silver is planning a Tall Ship cruise!  You and your spouse (or guests) are invited to take a sunset cruise on Wednesday September 13 from 4 to 7PM.  We are chartering the vessel for 60 passengers at a group rate.  If you missed it or did not get enough, Sail Boston 2017 need not be a distant memory, you can experience the thrill of sailing on the Tall Ship Gloucester ADVENTURE with SIM Boston sponsored by SIM Silver!

Register Today!

You can watch and enjoy as a passenger or participate, help raise the sails, and experience a day in the life of a doryman / deckhand on the last surviving dory fishing schooner, now the flagship of Gloucester.  ADVENTURE was built in Essex in 1926. She is fully restored and sails as a not-for-profit with a mission of education and enjoyment for all. You can take the wheel; you will experience the thrill of a tall ship under full sail. You will see ADVENTURE in her original condition and hear about her history as the Highliner, a Gloucesterman with the all time Cod fishing record on the Grand Banks.  She is 122′ overall in length and has 24′ beam, very roomy for our cruise.  If her fish hold were full of fish her gross tonnage would be over 132 tons, a big sailing ship!.  During the Sail Boston 2017 parade, because of her importance to the maritime heritage of Massachusetts, she had the position of honor in the first fleet sailing into Boston Harbor behind the US Coast Guard flagship USS Eagle.

The rate for this event is $60 per person covering the sail and light snacks with beer/wine on board.  If we sell out we will do our best to maintain a waiting list on a “first come” basis. You could choose to stay after the sail and have dinner in Gloucester Harbor. We will send advice on restaurants and encourage groups and families to make their own dinner party arrangements as they will be your own.

On the day of our event you will arrive at the Gloucester waterfront after 3PM, park in a kiosk or metered spot, walk a short distance to the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, and at 3:30 PM check in with Schooner ADVENTURE for an orientation and the beginning of your guided tour.

Fair winds and fun are in the forecast . This is NOT your usual SIM Silver meeting as we are trying to shake things up and hope you’ll join in on the fun!
